ENGLISH COCKER SPANIELS OF MERIT (ECM)
Proposed Revision to the English Cocker of Merit [ECM] Program
A proposal for changes to the ECM calculation and point values is scheduled to be voted on at the January 7, 2012 board meeting. This proposal was developed with input from members who volunteered at the 2011 National Specialty meeting in Denver, CO. Sandra Marr chaired that committee.

The proposed changes are the result of the increased number of new titles offered by AKC, including Grand Champion, T2B, and Beginner Novice. In addition, events more geared toward particular groups, such as coursing ability, are now open to all breeds.
The minimum points required and the minimum number of CH get required would not change. However, a maximum number of points any single offspring may contribute towards its sire or dam will be 2 points.
Possible future titling events such as lure coursing, carting, dock diving, etc., will be considered if they are deemed have relevance to the breed's purpose.

- What is the minimum number of Champions a sire must produce? Answer: 8
- What is the minimum number of Champions a bitch must produce? Answer: 4
- How many points does a MACH8 title contribute? Answer: 1 (on the first MACH title)
- How many points does a dog or bitch achieving GRCH level silver contribute? Answer: 1 (on the CH title)
- A dog or bitch that has achieved all of the following titles – CH – MACH3 – TDX will contribute how many points? Answer: 2
- Is the total number if points required increasing? Answer: No. It remains at 12 for a dog and 8 for a bitch.

Note: Dogs and bitches winning an Award of Merit (AOM) at ECSCA Specialties do NOT contribute a point to their sire and dam. This award should not be confused with the English Cocker of Merit (E.C.M.)
