Before
Oreo's appearance when first rescued
|
"Oreo"
August 2002
Oreo is a 14 year old blue
roan male that is allegedly deaf. The picture sent to us showed a skinny
dog that was shaved down. His owners were moving and were not able to take
the dog with them. Oreo had been living outside for many years, being brought
inside for severe weather only. With the help of Jean Sweezie in Canada,
Oreo was brought to the attention of Marjory Healey in Ontario, who was
about the have two EC puppies come into her life. |

After
Oreo in his new home
|
Even though she already has an elderly
Maltese that is deaf and blind, she found time to take Oreo into her home
and heart at this time. Oreo adjusted well to living inside, sleeping in
a crate and knowing how to ask to "go out." Despite asking his owners to
get him vet checked and report to us ahead of time the "alls's fine" they
gave us turned out to be an ulcer near his eye and many sores on his body.
His ears were dirty and his hearing seemed to get a bit better after cleaning
them. After a nice bath he was easier to approach as well. He's been gaining
weight and his coat is actually starting to shine. Although he likes to
romp in the yeard, he is very happy to come inside and play with the new
puppy. But he won't let the puppy near his food - after all, there are
limits. He's a changed dog, and we thank Marjorie for making sure Oreo's
last years will be happy ones. |
Update
We are sad to report that Oreo died on Dec 11, 2003. His owner reported,
"Oreo died in his sleep yesterday. At least he was warm and had lots of
treats in his last year and a half. He didn't have to stay outside in the
cold and enjoyed being in the
house. Rest well poor Oreo."
